Where we do use the cloud — and where they do
We won’t pretend we never touch a cloud service. The AI assistant works at every tier, and at Essential, Home, and Home+ it answers through cloud AI providers, so those requests leave the house. The difference is what that relationship is.
- Optional and disclosed. You decide whether the assistant is on, which provider it uses, and what it can reach. Turn it off and the house still runs.
- Not a dependency. Your lights, locks, sensors, and automations never route through a provider. Nothing we sell stops working because a company changed its plans.
- Not the business model. We charge for setup and care. Your home data isn’t inventory, isn’t sold, and isn’t used to target you.
- You can end it entirely. At the Intelligence tier the assistant runs on your own hardware (Ollama on a DGX Spark or Ascent GX10), so nothing leaves the house at all.
Their model is the inverse: cloud is mandatory, your data is the product, you rent the service forever, and they can discontinue it out from under you.
For property investors: Ring and Nest don't offer contractor access codes, tenant portals, or multi-unit dashboards.
