Your Local Cluster: Kubernetes (K3s) orchestrating 15-25 containerized services on a mini PC at your location. Home Assistant, PostgreSQL, MQTT brokers, Node-RED, and 10+ optional services (Nextcloud, Paperless, Frigate NVR, Ollama for local AI, etc.). Everything runs locally - your data stays in your home.
Self-Healing & Scalable: Kubernetes automatically restarts crashed services, redistributes workloads, and maintains desired state. If a container fails, it's replaced within seconds. Need more power? Add another mini PC to your cluster - Kubernetes distributes services across multiple nodes for better performance and redundancy. Horizontal scaling means you're never constrained by a single machine's limits.
How You Access It: Full dashboard access from any device on your local network. Optional add-on: Cloudflare Tunnel gives you remote access from anywhere using your own custom domain (yourhome.example.com). No port forwarding, no dynamic DNS, just secure HTTPS access.
How We Manage It: Separate Tailscale VPN (encrypted WireGuard tunnel) for our management access only. We push updates via GitOps, monitor health via Prometheus/Grafana, aggregate logs with Loki. Zero open ports on your firewall. Your access and our management access are completely separate networks.
Complete Portability: Every service is open-source. All configurations are exportable. You own the hardware. If you leave Somni, you could hire another systems engineer or manage it yourself. No lock-in, no proprietary black boxes.
